Officer Breaks Down Dangers of Brandishing BB Gun

"Regardless of what people say about the dudes wearing this uniform...we care." -Officer Casuccio of the Columbus Division of Police.

While I think this officer is using hyperbole about the scope of anyone being killed with BB guns as "all over the country" the point remains that an officer (or anyone for that matter) simply cannot wait to see if what someone is wielding is shooting BBs or 9mm.

Officer Peter Casuccio's body cam recorded the scene as he talked to the 11-year-old and his 13-year-old friend. The officer was patrolling Saturday with a ride-along from a community group when he got the call about two males flashing a gun nearby.

Audio from the body cam reveals the 11-year-old started pulling out the gun, scared as Officer Casuccio responded to the scene, in order to drop it. The officer says when the gun hit the sidewalk he realized it wasn't real.

"That thing looks real bro. You should be sorry and you should be scared," Officer Casuccio tells the boys as the 11-year-old apologizes to him. "I didn't want him to shoot," the 11-year-old says. "I know you didn't want me to shoot," Casuccio responded. "Do you think I want to shoot an 11-year-old? Do you think I want to shoot a 13-year-old?

After taking the boy home, the officer tells the mom what happened. The mom immediately realizes the danger, telling her son "He could've shot you!" "Your life hasn't even gotten started yet and it could have ended," Officer Casuccio told the boy. " I could've killed you. I want you to think about that tonight when you go to to bed. You could be gone. Everything you want to do in this life could've been over."
